My Dream Engineering Week

Engineering Week is the most anticipated celebration of the college. And since it is the centennial year of the college and recently concluded series of college-wide events had already set the bar of prestige and success, it is expected that we shall experience extravagance from Eng’g Week to a higher level one could imagine.

A single idea from the human mind can engineer events. An idea can transform the college and rewrite all the rules. Which is why I have to plant it. If I were part of the dream team to orchestrate the grand plan, hopefully this idea would “kick” off this December.

More than just the inception, which the blockbuster film of the same title had offered, the unifying theme revolves around dreams and aspirations. We can produce more ideas and play around later as we “go deeper”. After all, the College of Engineering is a concrete jungle where dreams are made and engineered.

“The Kick Off”

The opening day will keep us all awake through a festive “kick” off of sounds and activities! It has been a tradition of the Engineering Week to start the week-long celebration with a stuff-making contest. Inspired by the Inception’s Ariadne creation of her own totem, participants would create life-size chess pieces to represent their organizations, departments and institutes. They shall imprint their dreams and visions as they design these totems. The totem-making festival would then produce a giant chess which can be an instant photo spot and exhibit as end result.

I also dream of a photo exhibit where the subjects where wearing a Inception-slash-Mafia-like look-and-feel while flashing items that depict the Engineering Week event which the organization is spearheading. For example, a serious in-character Leonardo Di-Caprio holding a plastic balloon bag filled with water (used in Command and Conquer) as a weapon.

“A Smokin’ Nightmare [Before Christmas]”

That would be a temporary working title for the Smoker Night. We all know that this is when the organizations bring each other’s nightmares to life. You pretty much get the idea.

“Liquid Dreams”

Remember this song from O-town which describes the ooooh-lala fantasies? This is best suited for Maskipaps where such naughty thoughts come alive as models fulfill your wildest wish on that night.

“Limbo Rock”

A dream within a dream is unstable… but it is possible.

Although Miss Engineering would remain as the culmination night, a Christmas party ala Fierce Degree Burn on Engineering Week would be nice. Previously there were no activities during the last day (only Lantern Parade and Miss Engineering at night), thus a tugs-tugs all-love-no-war Thursday can be organized. It may showcase once again the winning talents of Awitan, Indakan and JamEng’g, the winning masterpieces like films, music video and songs, and a catwalk of the top models of Engineering. Or it would be just another new event.

“Electric Dreams”

and all other song titles with the word dream, “panaginip” or “pangarap” for that matter. If we search the music playlist with the said keywords, we would end up a lengthy list. Night event organizers are given the liberty to decide on their own themes yet the default dream theme could also go places.

A play about society’s nightmares is also as challenging as “Politics + Utopia”, last year’s theme of Dulaan Eng’g.

“Dream Girls”

Miss Engineering candidates would portray the iconic divas of all time here and abroad. Self-explanatory.

“Enggception”

It would be a fulfillment to put yet another fierce suggestion called “Enggception” to reality. I’m crossing my fingers. Nevertheless, planting this idea, or what we know now as the process of inception, is worth a shot.
