If there’s one thing from me to love about Marian Rivera, it is definitely her strong power in advertising that entices every one to buy the (in)famous corned tuna, San Marino.
I could still remember how frustrated I was when the product had just been launched and I could find any can of San Marino corned tuna from the known groceries in Metro Manila and here in home province Bulacan. I’ve searched Landmark, South Supermarket, SM Supermarket and UltraMega but only after six attempts I’ve found the precious processed fish on a Waltermart branch and bought cans of it. I’ve speculated that the threatened competitor owner of Century Tuna took an organized sabotage plan.

The season 1 of the top-rating morning TV show Showtime has been recently concluded as its first grand champion emerged. Since it’s airing during mornings and either I’m still asleep or on way to school, I haven’t followed the episodes of the show. Yet, Showtime does not fail to entertain me every time I have a chance to be hooked on. I wasn’t aware who competing finalists were until I watched the “grand” grand finals but I am pretty sure that my eyes would enjoy the feast of talents because of the critical judges.
Personally, I enjoyed Showtime more than Pilipinas Got Talent even the latter’s production and its cost are enormous. There are several reasons for my such liking and thus this post.
One is the judges and ultimately when no Kris Aquino around. Tommooh, right? Before I explain my respect to Vice Ganda, the resident judge of Showtime, please watch this particular moment.

It was as early as 3:30 in the morning when I joined in fastening tarpaulin guides all over the race route. The council had already been busy and some even didn’t sleep in preparation for yet another first in the history of Engineering happening at the college centennial – Eng’gfinity!
Eng’gfinity is the UP Diliman College of Engineering’s first-ever run with more than 400 registrants coming from the 8 departments and institutes of the Engineering as well as alumni and those frequent runners outside UP who visited the university for the fun run. The centennial race has three divisions – 2.2K circumferencing the famous Academic Oval, the 5K and the 10K.
Not just the overwhelming attendance, Eng’gfinity is also boasting its RFID shoe tag provided by Itemhound which is capable of timing each runner’s lapse and providing the results few minutes after the runner has checked out.
Eng’gfinity is one of the events of the centennial Engineering Cup. Part of the proceeds from the run will go to PhoenICs, a rehabilitation program of the university’s Institute of Chemistry wherein its pavilion met a fire accident few months ago. Eng’gfinity is proudly presented by the Engineering Student Council, Canon, P&G, Chris Sports, 100 Plus, Hotel Sogo, Sanuk, Itemhound and UP Health Service.
I captured some of the sweat and sweet smiles of the runners which only show that Eng’gfinity was a great success and enjoyment from infinity and beyond!

From the “dark” director Christopher Nolan, who also produced and wrote this movie, Inception revolves around an orchestrated plan of Dom Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) by travelling on dreams of others not just to steal information or to extract secrets, previously inaccessible at the conscious state, but can also inflict an idea to target’s subconscious.
His “dream team” includes a point man Arthur (Joseph Gordon-Levitt, lead role from 500 Days of Summer), an architect Ariadne (Ellen Page) who designs the alternate world, a forger capable of shifting to another identity and a chemist who developed a drug to project a multi-level dream. Joining them also is the first target on the film, Saito (Ken Watanabe) who became their employer and financier. Their ultimate goal is to plant an emotional and very complex idea on the mind of Saito’s forthcoming rival Robert Fischer that will lead the target to divide his father’s empire.

From the same team who brought us National Treasure series, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice is a modern-day fantasy saga film about a college physics student Dave Stutler, played by Jay Baruchel, destined to learn underground course of magic and sorcery through the help of his master Balthazar, played by Nicolas Cage, in order to save the world from the evil forces of Horvarth and Morgana la Fay. These antagonists killed Merlin centuries ago and is about to destroy the present world by bringing back the dead to life.
It regularly premiered at the local cinemas last Thursday along with other (and better) films. We had chosen to watch this fictional adventure first due to its visual invitation we had witnessed on trailers. Unfortunately, even the imagery and effects of the movie did not offer new tricks, which I thought would backup the cliché plot. The movie is made for children but failed to entertain the inner child in me.

Boasting as the Philippines’ first quintology made for a film, Star Cinema’s latest offering Cinco debuts last July 13, 2010 in a premiere night at Cinema 10 of Megamall. Everyone seems ready to be frightened by the stellar cast of most promising ABS-CBN talents and a new breed of horror-thriller directors as a number of fans, celebrity friends and Kapamilya network heads grace the event regardless of the wrath of typhoon Basyang can bring.
Prior to the premiere night, I was also invited at the Cinco costume party and was given some previews and hints of what to expect from the movie. Eager to know what the connecting link of five episodes is, I’ve formulated somehow the plots on my mind. Suprisingly, for each episode and the entire movie itself, disproved my guesses. In short, Cinco is not your typical movie.
