Yes, you heard me right!

On November 14, 2010, at the comfort of our own home, I join every Filipino in support for the Pambansang Kamao, Manny Pacquiao as he takes all the risks and “risks” (eyes on you, Margarito!) to get his 8th world title on different divisions – only a true pound-for-pound boxer can do. And only Watchpad, the country’s first broadband entertainment portal, can serve us a free live streaming of this much-anticipated event without commercial breaks.

More details after the jump.

I already reserved a free viewing slot from Watchpad via http://www.pldtwatchpad.com/PacmanMargaritoFight.html by simply providing the account information in the reservation form.

And good thing that I’m subscribed to PLDT 2MBPs-connection speed because a connection speed of 768 kbps or higher is needed for optimized viewing of the fight. So for other Watchpad users under plan 990 subscribers, you still need to upgrade at least to plan 1299.

But if you still don’t have Watchpad installed on your laptop or PC, there’s nothing heavyweight to worry because you can still sign up for this good service here: http://www.pldtwatchpad.com/SignUp.html

To know more about PLDT Watchpad, like the service on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/watchpad or follow the crew on Twitter http://twitter.com/watchpad.

You can still reserve your slot on or before November 8, 2010!

Witness the history as it unfolds from no less than Manny Pacquiao, the only boxer ever elected on a congressional post!

There is a trend in shifting from client-server architecture to cloud computing. Thus, delivering business solutions into the cloud computing infrastructure is becoming relevant and significant. In Philippines, a new enterprise technology is being introduced as NetSuite launches the first cloud ERP suite for the local market – the NetSuite OneWorld PH.

Taking the advantages of the cloud, NetSuite OneWorld PH offers a first of its kind on-demand system that delivers real-time global business management and financial consolidation to mid-sized companies with multinational and multi-subsidiary operations. As a fully localized version of the NetSuite OneWorld, the enterprise application has been fully localized for the accounting rules, usage conventions, statutory and regulatory requirements of the Philippine market. It simplifies the complex tax reporting requirements mandated by the Bureau of Internal Revenue.

NetSuite has long been the industry leader in cloud-based computing solutions in managing key business processes from financial consolidation to enterprise resource planning to customer relations management and e-commerce with unparalleled flexibility, ease of use and cost-efficiency. NetSuite has already established a good reputation among some of the Philippine’s leading companies such as Jollibee Foods Corporation, ABS-CBN and Antech, makers of Dr. Edwards Water.

When Jollibee expanded outside the Philippines specifically Vietnam, the local company selected NetSuite as the latter provides all the capabilities needed to run an international operation. Meanwhile, Institute of Culinary Arts and Food Service at Far Eastern University along with Pancake House Group’s joint venture, manage its operational needs including school requirements through NetSuite that avoids them in purchasing costly enterprise servers and in incurring several hires.

Backed up by busting the common myths of cloud computing, Zach Nelson, CEO of NetSuite, himself showcased the company’s cloud-based ERP software suite last October 14, 2010 at The Peninsula Manila as part of their Business Cloud Tour. He even shared to the technology specialists of the country the collaboration with Philippine universities like De La Salle University which brings course offerings to the Accountancy students.

During the said launching event, a demonstration was held to show some of the features and functionalities of NetSuite OneWorld PH. It supports country- and local-specific tax codes, greater control of foreign currency amortization and revaluation, language support, an advanced ease-of-use user interface and integration of Google Apps. Shown below is an example screenshot of NetSuite’s patent-pending “real-time dashboard”.

NetSuite OneWorld PH will be available beginning November 15, 2010 at no additional charge.

I’ve been a subscriber of PLDT myDSL for more than a year now and I am very satisfied and contented. Choosing the most powerful subscription package that time (that is, I am subscribed to Plan 2500) is one of the best decisions I made. No regrets at all. My almost filled 500GB external hard drive can attest to that.

Now, I am informed that PLDT myDSL is now offering a bundle deal for a super fast connection by a modem and WiFi. Then, I recommend you to seize the opportunity of maximizing the enjoyment of your own social life by subscribing to PLDT myDSL + WiFi!

The quickest installation you could possibly get is the same plug-and-play feature of the modem. PLDT literally extended your network since it covers a greater area of connectivity to the internet with WiFi connection.

My younger sister watches YouTube and livestream channels a lot more than TV while I download, socialize and spread love online. And WiFi connection makes no sibling troubles. That would mean a lot for bigger families or barkadas living under one roof right?

And speaking of network, I can hardly wait to watch The Social Network that features one of my idols for life, Mark Zuckerberg and his brainchild, Facebook. Well, what can you expect from a geek fan? No less than creating a parody of Facebook – my own masterpiece, Facebuko!

The Social Network is to Facebook, as PLDT myDSL modem+wifi is for more virtual sharing of creative juice from our favorite, Facebuko!

I couldn’t think of any way of sharing the juiciest Facebuko but the PLDT myDSL way. Now with WiFi!

So meet Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg (and Facebuko creator Jonas Roque) on October 19, 2010 (Tuesday) at Greenbelt 3 Cinema 1 as Nuffnang and PLDT myDSL hold a special screening of The Social Network!

We are all suffering from cancer. We tend to become indifferent, apathetic and blind of our social responsibilities. Due to fast-paced lifestyle nowadays and its high demands, we are unaware that we’re slowly eaten by social carcinogens.

I came across Ms. Janette Toral’s cause. She, and other bloggers as well, is supporting the Real Love Campaign, spearheaded by Unilever Foodsolutions in partnership with Team Manila for the benefit of Kythe Foundation.

Hey, that’s a good cure to social cancer! Let you and I spread the campaign. Your small time and some few clicks would mean a lot to the beneficiaries of Kythe Foundation – kids with cancer.

The team will conduct outreach programs like activities in arts and crafts, storytelling and healthy sandwich making.

We are all amazed by Team Manila’s design and brainchild shirts, right? The partnership of Unilever Foodsolutions and Team Manila brings a specially-designed and limited edition shirt for only Php 550 to their clothing line! These collaboration shirts are available for both men and women in various sizes. Part of the proceeds will benefit the Kythe Foundation.

Here’s another simple yet major way to help. Check out http://www.facebook.com/spreadreallove and “like” the Real Love Campaign page. For every 1,000 “like” entries until it reach 10,000 fans, Real Love will donate 1,000 sandwiches to the different Kythe partner hospitals.

But hey, as of writing, the page gets less than 2,000 like hits. As a challenge for me and for the readers of Facebuko.com, we shall hit that 10,000 mark!

I’m running a small contest now and I know that you want to wear that limited edition Real Love shirt. Here’s the mechanics:

1. Like the Official Facebook Page of Real Love Campaign.

2. Simply complete this sentence:

“I will share my love to the kids of Kythe by _____”.

3. Post a Wall photo, status or a video at We Spread Real Love by Facebuko.

4. Best answer wins one (1) Real Love shirt! Winner needs to be within the Philippines only.

5. Contest runs from October 9 to 16, 2010. The winner will be announced on the 17th of October, 2010.

For more information on the Real Love Campaign, Kythe and how you can help, you may call Unilever Foodsolutions at 588-8855 (Metro Manila) or 1-800-588-8855 (outside Metro Manila) or send an email through foodsolutions.philippines@unilever.com. You can also visit Kythe’s official website (http://www.kythe.org)

The overflowing love started when Facebuko got in to the list of Top 10 Emerging Influential Blogs of 2010. It was overwhelming because I didn’t campaign for it unlike what I did last year at Mashable’s Open Web Awards where I landed among the top contenders as Best Brand Use of Facebook. Furthermore, I was humbled since the harder-to-please blogosphere helped me to be on the spot.

I used to be indifferent in the blogosphere by choice. I am quite afraid that fans of Marian Rivera or Uma Khouny would pick on me to avenge of their idols. Fortunately, the bloggers and I are on the same boat. My acceptance of that recognition was my first appearance as Facebuko.

It’s overwhelming when people approach you, tell that they’re avid readers of my brainchild and take pictures with me. If there’s one benefit I like most about blogging, it is popularity. Hahaha. This PBB audition reject finally discovered his real home.

(Thanks, Erica May Naranjo for the picture.)

Few days after, I spoke about customizing WordPress blogs using themes and plugins at Wordcamp Philippines 2010. It is a case study of our favorite site where I presented how I tweaked the available-to-the-public WordPress theme to look like Facebook.

I’ve learned that all of the slots for my talk were taken. That’s lot of pressure to take. Wearing the confidence from my favorite necktie, pair of shoes and free Krispy Kremes too lessens the nervousness. Then I introduced myself and wow, the crowd just applauded. Wild.

The funniest segment of my talk was the Q&A. The usual “Are you afraid of copyright infringement?” stuff’s thrown to me. I just replied “Mas takot ako sa mga artista na na-feature ko kaysa sa Facebook”. Of course, I still fear of Facebook suing me since the site took down my like page twice and cancelled my account. I guess the audience felt my concern, hahaha. That’s why one rescued me, (thanks, by the way) and explained that before I got sued, Facebook should run after the creator of the theme. Wehehe. True that. Although it looks and sounds like Facebook, what I mock most are the celebrities… beautiful celebrities!

And then I was invited to guest at TekTok TV last Wednesday. My second TV appearance but this time, it’s airing live. This episode features Ms. Janette Toral and the influential bloggers of 2010.

I knew I would screw up talking that’s why I wore my best. Haha. Look. Muntanga me at its finest.

The next day, it was an honor to be invited at President Noy’s Report Kay Boss, a day before his 100th day at the Office as the country’s leader.

And all of these happening so quickly, while we’re waiting for the president speak, I told myself… maybe, being a president is my destiny after all.

LoLz.

Well, I owe everything, all these good stuff, to my readers and my friends, my future constituents.

I’m happy to share a new means of transportation I discovered at Trinoma mall. Operated by MetroAsia, a queue of brand new Innova cars is located at the taxi stand near BreadTalk along Mindanao Avenue replacing what is used to be dominated by LPG-fueled taxis.

A concierge welcomes you and asks your destination. You will then pay the fee to the concierge and shall receive a receipt.

I was charged P120 and P170 going to UP Diliman and Katipunan respectively and approximately P50 on top of the usual taxi fare. I assume the difference would widen as the distance takes longer. It is implied that the customer is also paying the round trip because these Innova taxis are not picking up new passengers as they go back to the camp.

This transportation mode is a good (and last) resort when you and everyone else are in a hurry like a Friday night hysteria. Innova is spacious that you can load your packages and bring along 6 friends with you inside. Law-abiding taxis do not allow more than 4 passengers at a time. Thus, a barkada would actually save some bucks here.

I recommend you try this especially when you received your pay and want to stay away from breathing some fume of LPG. You are not always lucky to get an MGE and the like taxis.

Engineering Week is the most anticipated celebration of the college. And since it is the centennial year of the college and recently concluded series of college-wide events had already set the bar of prestige and success, it is expected that we shall experience extravagance from Eng’g Week to a higher level one could imagine.

A single idea from the human mind can engineer events. An idea can transform the college and rewrite all the rules. Which is why I have to plant it. If I were part of the dream team to orchestrate the grand plan, hopefully this idea would “kick” off this December.

More than just the inception, which the blockbuster film of the same title had offered, the unifying theme revolves around dreams and aspirations. We can produce more ideas and play around later as we “go deeper”. After all, the College of Engineering is a concrete jungle where dreams are made and engineered.

“The Kick Off”

The opening day will keep us all awake through a festive “kick” off of sounds and activities! It has been a tradition of the Engineering Week to start the week-long celebration with a stuff-making contest. Inspired by the Inception’s Ariadne creation of her own totem, participants would create life-size chess pieces to represent their organizations, departments and institutes. They shall imprint their dreams and visions as they design these totems. The totem-making festival would then produce a giant chess which can be an instant photo spot and exhibit as end result.

I also dream of a photo exhibit where the subjects where wearing a Inception-slash-Mafia-like look-and-feel while flashing items that depict the Engineering Week event which the organization is spearheading. For example, a serious in-character Leonardo Di-Caprio holding a plastic balloon bag filled with water (used in Command and Conquer) as a weapon.

“A Smokin’ Nightmare [Before Christmas]”

That would be a temporary working title for the Smoker Night. We all know that this is when the organizations bring each other’s nightmares to life. You pretty much get the idea.

“Liquid Dreams”

Remember this song from O-town which describes the ooooh-lala fantasies? This is best suited for Maskipaps where such naughty thoughts come alive as models fulfill your wildest wish on that night.

“Limbo Rock”

A dream within a dream is unstable… but it is possible.

Although Miss Engineering would remain as the culmination night, a Christmas party ala Fierce Degree Burn on Engineering Week would be nice. Previously there were no activities during the last day (only Lantern Parade and Miss Engineering at night), thus a tugs-tugs all-love-no-war Thursday can be organized. It may showcase once again the winning talents of Awitan, Indakan and JamEng’g, the winning masterpieces like films, music video and songs, and a catwalk of the top models of Engineering. Or it would be just another new event.

“Electric Dreams”

and all other song titles with the word dream, “panaginip” or “pangarap” for that matter. If we search the music playlist with the said keywords, we would end up a lengthy list. Night event organizers are given the liberty to decide on their own themes yet the default dream theme could also go places.

A play about society’s nightmares is also as challenging as “Politics + Utopia”, last year’s theme of Dulaan Eng’g.

“Dream Girls”

Miss Engineering candidates would portray the iconic divas of all time here and abroad. Self-explanatory.

“Enggception”

It would be a fulfillment to put yet another fierce suggestion called “Enggception” to reality. I’m crossing my fingers. Nevertheless, planting this idea, or what we know now as the process of inception, is worth a shot.

When supposedly I should only be proving my graduate thesis during my remaining semesters at UP Diliman, I found myself devoting my time in serving the Engineering students big time. When the main reason of taking masters is to move ahead as I step back in the corporate world, I found myself working with a great team of public service. Masters. Servants. One of the ironies of life that I like.

We came from different Engineering courses, idealogies, walks of life and you bet, age! I just crossed the quarter-life crisis while some of them are still teenagers. But you wouldn’t notice it when you see us. We’re close with and open to each other. Close. Open. Yeah. Like.

It was the college who elected the forty-three of us. Yet I may say, it is the genius work of fate that chose us to be as one and a super one.

SUPER ONE Hundred

We are the centennial Engineering Student Council. On every work we do, we always think and put P.U.S.O. in practice. Prestige. Unity. Student-Oriented. In celebration of the College of Engineering’s one-hundred years of existence and excellence, we conduct programs and projects that would benefit not just the Engineering but the other young leaders outside Engineering as well. We aim to prove that the college is more than just being the largest in number but the fiercest and best college of the university.

Right after we’ve been inducted, several projects and events lined up for us. We spearheaded the commencement exercises and tribute parties for the graduates, organized and opened the centennial celebration of the college, assembled the departments and institutes in a sportsfest, called everyone in a recreational run and recently gathered Engineering students of different universities in a vision to build the nation.

SUPER as ONE

But more than the goals we have set, it is the bonding we have formed and continuously building that I won’t forget. This is one of the best friendships I have yet.

Think of yuppies of my age going out at night for a beer or two and thinking of how to impress the boss or means to earn higher salary. It is a different case of mine today where I dine in, converse and oversleep with the kids to plan projects and programs for execution for at least 6,000 students. When superiors of corporate world tend to detach themselves to be someone to look up by the employees,

Even though we’re dumped with things to do and appointments to attend, we make sure that we’re not outdated with the recent movies. Every one of us wouldn’t forget that we once watched Iron Man 2 in quorum and took pictures inside the mall as a block like we’re in a field trip.

We enjoy eating and drinking at Maharlika and Katipunan strips. It is from them where I learned restaurants and stalls having great value for money which I haven’t discovered before when I was undergraduate. There was also this time that we hopped at three locations for booze and more booze and ended up still in good character the next day.

And the most exciting part — when the members of the council fall in and fall out of love to each other. If there are people that could understand (and love) the ESC members more, they are the people inside the council themselves. As much as I wanted to be involved in the love polygons, I rather observed and shared my two cents.

To know more about what the Engineering Student Council does, visit our official website, EnggIsko.Net. I can assure you that ESC deserves to be called a Super One! I normally took the pictures of the events but I am lucky to find pictures of me and my gang.

Here in Engineering Student Council
Prestige. Unity. Student-Oriented is our seal
When to serve the college is our main drill
We can be in an up or downhill
But it’s always part of the thrill

Pag-ibig at romansa, dito ma-fi-feel
Di ba nga, meron kaming Bri at Cecil?
At kay Ron na suki ng Deal or No Deal?
Magaling sa trabaho, masaya pag chill
Ganyan ang Engineering Student Council

In celebration of the jejemons’ victory after the word has been chosen as the Filipino word of 2010, I enumerated some pet peeves online that I consider 13 of the worst FFFFUUUUU- annoyance and which jejemons normally do at Facebook, Plurk and their haven, Tumblr. Their manner of writing and “tnx po kuah” are trivial here.

13. Liking Own Status

I’m not really sure of the orgasm one gets after liking own Facebook status.

Kawawa ka naman. ‘Nuff said.

12. Bed Shots As Profile Pictures

Jejemons add more colorful text in Comic Sans over their profile pictures of themselves with an Asian pose. But taking a low resolution and blurred picture of oneself lying on bed hurts my eyes more!

11. Autoplay of music

Sometimes I got intrigued of my followers so I visit their profiles. Unfortunately, few of them have embedded music players that autoplay their favorite song list. Worse, if you can’t locate the stop button. And to combo it, just right after the music has been streamed, the background of the HTML will finally load and cannot be unseen.

10. Cross-wall Facebook application posts

I am guilty of spamming my friends list with Mafia Wars help notification but those who find it annoying can simply filter it from their personal feed. This is not the case for applications which post, normally ask your friends about you, to your personal wall also. You have your own trip but don’t bother to invite me with those effin’ survey applications.

9. Tag

I was once in fury when I was tagged at a NSFW photo supposedly funny for some. This is the cross I have to carry for confirming strangers who added me. Unless it is very related to me and not just effin’ wordart, I’ll keep it. Otherwise, stay away from tagging me.

8. Truth About McDonalds

I really don’t like to see them on comments on my post. They are so irrelevant and irritating. Do they cut and paste those? I’m not sure. But it’s an effort from them!

7. Page Suggestion: See Who Viewed My Profile

If they want this feature, then leave Facebook and keep your Friendster account! If it’s not something official from Facebook, then I don’t believe. Another variation is Pimp My Profile which suggests colors and sparkles as hip. What the hell.

6. Posts Not Crediting Facebuko

Screenshots of Facebuko have been circulating around Facebook and Tumblr. It would be nice if they’re at least mentioning or linking back it to Facebuko. Traffic courtesy of new visitors is not something big to demand. And please don’t put watermark over it with your Tumblr URL and claim it your own.

5. Special Characters

Because they are not as cute as these: ٩(̾●̮̮̃̾•̃̾)۶ ٩(͡๏̯͡๏)۶ ٩(-̮̮̃ -̃)۶

Those who prefix single apostrophe and other weird characters so they appear first on your list is not cool.

4. Abuse of Private Plurk

There’s no written rule on when to and not to plurk privately, but my excitement about “Private (1)” tab kills me when that plurk is just to advertise a latest blog post. OK we get it, you want us to get notified but it defeats the purpose, that I know, in private plurks which either chismis or rant.

3. Photo Watermarks

I’m not having a discipline in labeling my photos because the task is very tedious, and the whole world owns them. It’s only recently that I watermarked my photos here. But I trust my judgment that some photos are not really good (and I’m pretty sure not much to be coveted) to be personally watermarked that one actually about to cover the subject. Visit a popular Tumblr site of concert scenes to see what I’m nagging about.

2. Pa-like powhz. Pa-boost powhz.

Where in the world these kids get the effin’ idea that Facebook is about having the most number of fans in a Facebook page?! They have this certain undying passion to comment everywhere in the page that they don’t own to promote theirs.

On the other hand, I could understand this:

… or not!

1. Fuck Yeah Word Art!

I’m still down because fuckyourwordart is still down. Hahahaha. By the way, I don’t own that epic Tumblr that crushes many kids’ dreams of tumblarity!

To those who claim that their artwork is a typography, WTF?!
